Unity Toronto Featured on City News
We were proud to welcome City News into our Scarborough facility to talk about an issue that doesn’t get discussed enough in youth sports: safety, education, and the pressure young athletes face to grow up too fast.
At Unity Toronto Gym, training has never been about shortcuts. It’s about protecting long-term health, building confidence, and educating families so young athletes can develop properly, both physically and mentally.
The Reality of Supplements in Youth Sports
During the interview, our founder Coach Ryan Rambarran addressed a growing concern he sees far too often: children being exposed to supplements and substances meant for adult bodies.
"Children cannot be taking the same portions as adults, who obviously have different muscle masses. Things like steroids, we stay away from that." — Coach Ryan Rambarran
Many parents are unaware that popular supplements marketed online or on social media are not designed for growing bodies. In some cases, they can interfere with natural development, hormone balance, and recovery.
At Unity, we focus on:
Teaching proper movement before adding load
Building strength through age-appropriate training
Educating parents on what their children should and should not be consuming
Reinforcing that nutrition, sleep, consistency, and coaching matter far more than any supplement
There are no shortcuts that outperform a strong foundation.
Why Human Coaching Still Matters
The conversation also touched on the rise of AI-generated workouts and fitness apps. While technology can be helpful, it cannot replace real coaching.
An app cannot:
Correct a young athlete’s form in real time
Adjust training based on growth, fatigue, or injury history
Mentor a child through confidence, discipline, and accountability
Protect athletes from misinformation and unsafe practices
As Coach Ryan shared with City News, AI is still AI. Experience, judgment, and care come from real people, not screens.
When families choose Unity, they are choosing supervision, education, and guidance that prioritizes safety first.
